Flex Legal
Becoming an established advocate for social mobility across law
The Challenge
Flex Legal is an SME providing on-demand flexible legal talent with firms and in-house teams. On top of this, they provide training opportunities for aspiring solicitors and company secretaries, championing individuals from under-represented socio-economic backgrounds.
The company knew that for too long, many young legal professionals have been slipping through the net. Not because of their potential, but because of their circumstances. Talent from underrepresented backgrounds often have no networks and no connections, with many finding it impossible just to get their foot in the door.
Flex Legal’s work in shaping an inclusive profession is highly important yet largely ignored. After facing an increased rollback in DEI initiatives, due to political pressure and attitudes in the US, it seemed their story wasn’t given a chance to be told. This made inclusive messaging much harder to gain traction, and awareness of Flex Legal’s expertise was limited.

The Solution
Showcasing why social mobility is critical to law
Having had little media presence beforehand, it’s important to demonstrate what Flex Legal is trying to achieve, and why it’s so critical to the legal profession. Our ongoing work has included targeted press releases, business profiling, thought-provoking opinion pieces, and powerful case studies.
- We started with the opening of Flex Trainee 2025, targeting business, trade and local press to showcase this opportunity for law graduates. We started with a press release for companies, where teams could sign up to take on a Trainee, before targeting candidates, where underrepresented talent could submit applications.
- We use thought-leadership pieces to explain why it is so important to champion social mobility. At a time where this was at risk of being ignored, we connected with journalists and editors who understand this is a story worth telling.
- We’re profiling the CEO, Kate Gaskell. Coming from a single-parent, working-class background, Kate is well-positioned to speak on DEI, and we’ve used this lived experience of social mobility for powerful interviews.
- We approach journalists with case studies, real people who had been on the Flex Trainee scheme and saw firsthand the difference it had made to their career. We’re also championing Company Secretaries using Flex Legal’s CoSec Trainee scheme, a career not as known to the profession.
- We demonstrate how Flex Legal supports talent in other ways, including their innovation in AI and the rollout of their Copilot training programme.
We maintain consistent coverage through proactive and reactive opportunities, ensuring Flex Legal’s work can no longer be ignored.
